Alexandra Küffer

Co-Founder and Director of the “Swiss Coffin Project”; Founder and Head of the cultural forum “Nile Times” (Bern/Switzerland); Research Affiliate, Evolutionary Pathophysiology & Mummy Studies, Institute of Evolutionary Medicine (IEM), University of Zurich.

Main research interests: Ancient Egyptian collections in Swiss museums; coffin iconography and epigraphy; provenance research; relations between Switzerland and Egypt in the 19th and early 20th century; documentation of collection histories and object biographies.

Alexandra is currently studying the coffins from the Cache-tomb of Bab el-Gasus in Switzerland for a publication of the four coffin sets that were given to the Swiss Federal Council by the Khedive Abbas Hilmi II in 1893. The publication will be released in late 2025 as Volume I of the “SCP Publications” series.

Daniela Rutica

Co-Founder of the “Tage der Ägyptologie/Days of Egyptology”; Lecturer at the “Seschat School of Egyptology”; Assistant Project Coordinator for the DAAD Ta'ziz project “Explore and Protect”; Head of the "Hannig-Lexica" project as successor to Prof Dr Rainer Hannig, founder of the project.

Artistic activities: Stage design, (wall) paintings, reconstructions based on ancient Egyptian motifs, drawings for scientific publications.

Founding Member and long-standing President of the “Egyptology Forum” in Zurich; Co-Founder of the “Swiss Coffin Project”.

Main research interests: Ancient Egyptian burial equipment in Swiss museums and collections; studies on the cultural-historical context of objects; coffin iconography and epigraphy; provenance and acquisition history; contributions on specific object-related issues.

Renate is studying the coffin ensemble of Shepeniset at the Stiftsbibliothek St. Gallen (Abbey Library St. Gall) for a publication on the first Egyptian coffins to arrive in Switzerland and their provenance. The publication will be released in the “SCP Publications” series.

  

Katharina Stövesand

Katharina Stövesand

Freelance Egyptologist and Academic Lecturer; Head of the project “The Late Period Coffins from el-Hibe in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo” (in co-operation with Prof. Abdelrazek El-Naggar, Ain Shams University).

Main research interests: Coffins of the Late Period; visual culture of Egypt; archaeology of the Fayum and Middle Egypt; Memphite necropolis.

Katharina is currently preparing the facsimiles and transliterations of the hieroglyphic inscriptions on the Bab el-Gasus coffins for Volume I of the “SCP Publications” series. Together with Alexandra, the author of the volume, she is translating and discussing the texts of the coffins of the Priests of Amun.
