In our last blog in January 2024, we discussed the importance of regular dialogue with museums. Among other things, we mentioned the coffins of Shepeniset and the controversial demand for the return of her mummy to Egypt.
Renate Siegmann, Egyptologist and co-founder of the Swiss Coffin Project, has been studying Lady Shepeniset for a long time and has written several publications on the subject. As part of the SCP's new publication series on coffins in Swiss museums, she has once again delved into the archive material and analysed the early documents on the provenance of the two coffins and the mummy of Shepeniset. A particular focus is on the person of Philipp Roux de Damiani, who sent the burial equipment to St. Gallen in 1820. Little is known of his life and work. Her report "In search of Philipp Roux de Damiani" gives an insight into her latest research.
